Ocean City Chamber Pumps Up Social Media Campaign

May 2, 2021 | By admin | No Comments | Filed in: yzhnxslpc.

first_imgBy Maddy VitaleThe Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce has increased its social media platform to attract even more visitors to “America’s Greatest Family Resort.”Over the last year, e-marketing strategies designed to boost tourism seem to be working, according to a report by Shawnda McGinnis during the Chamber’s Business Summit Oct. 4 at the Ocean City Yacht Club.“It has been a very busy season for the Chamber,” said McGinnis, the Chamber’s marketing director. She noted that in addition to more web traffic from visitors to the Chamber’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, the Ocean City App, which was launched last year, has seen a significant increase in users from 9,000 to 16,000.“People are becoming more tech-savvy,” McGinnis said. “The world is a changing place.”Marketing Director of the Chamber Shawnda McGinnis says the Chamber is seeing a big increase in traffic to the website and Facebook and there are more Ocean City App users. The app features things to do in Ocean City, highlights businesses, and by the end of the year, will offer consumers a way to do cash-free transactions. Ken Wisnefski, owner of the digital marketing company WebiMax, who is also the owner of, has been working with the Chamber on creating the new feature.Wisnefski noted in his report at the summit that the cash-free feature is a way to provide more convenience to shoppers and attract millennials to Ocean City. Often, he said, younger consumers leave cash at home and opt for cards. With the app, they can purchase items from participating merchants.McGinnis said the app has been used for virtually everything this summer. People most often use it to check the calendar of events and learn all that is offered at local businesses. She said the option for cash-free purchases has been received positively by visitors and business owners, who feel it is a reflection of the times. The Ocean City App has been a hit so far and officials are hoping with new features it will gain more users. In addition to the growing use of the app, McGinnis outlined the number of phone calls made during a year to the city’s Welcome Center.“We field more than 100,000 phone calls,” she said. The Chamber also sends out emails to visitors and residents who sign up for the feature. The emails provide useful information about events and businesses. Currently, there are 150,000 people on the list. The Chamber’s website gives Chamber members a reason to be pleased, McGinnis said. To date, there are more than 800,000 sessions and of those views, the top pages are the calendar of events and things to do. She noted that visitors to the website are primarily from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.Ocean City Chamber of Commerce Facebook pageThe number of followers for the Chamber’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts also continues to grow, McGinnis said. While the focus continues to be social media platforms and expanding the app, McGinnis said more traditional forms of advertising, including the Visitors Guide, remain vital parts of the marketing strategy.During the summit, restaurant owner and president of the Downtown Merchants Association, Patty Talese, told the audience that Ocean City continues to use digital, TV, print, billboards, mailings and other marketing tools to showcase Ocean City.Google display ads are a new addition to the Chamber’s marketing strategy. Facebook also continues to drive brand awareness, Talese pointed out.Chamber Executive Director Michele Gillian addresses the audience at the Business Summit.Chamber Executive Director Michele Gillian noted at the summit that tourism is vital to Cape May County, which is why it is so important to stay current and offer visitors and residents as many activities and conveniences as possible.“We want you all to walk with us. This is a new age. We are looking to benefit the business community. We are here for you,” Gillian told the room filled with business owners. “We want to be at the forefront. We want businesses to thrive and hope the businesses come along with us.”For more information visit or go to the Facebook page at This is where Ocean City officials went to meet up with Martin Z. Using 3D Printing to Repair Rodin’s Thinker

In 2007, the Singer Laren Museum in the Netherlands, where The Thinker resided, was burglarized. The meatheads who broke in did so not to steal the art, but to steal the metal. They made off with seven sculptures and started to try to chop them up to sell for scrap. Six of the sculptures were utterly destroyed but a badly damaged Thinker was recovered. Quite aside from its artistic merit, it is worth, on the open market, up to $10 million. So the Singer Laren needed to figure out how to deal with the butchered figure. iMaterialise had an idea. They did a CT scan of the damaged figure. Then they scanned the original mold retained by the Musee Rodin in Paris. They printed out a full-sized copy from the original on their Mammoth 3D printer. The Mammoth uses a photopolymer resin to form the product in sections about six feet in length. The CT scans are imported and rendered using Materialise’s software. Lasers guide the shape, laying down thin sheets until they build up into the figure. A modeler finishes, adding texture and color. The conservators at the Singer Laren have used that and the scans of the original to re-fabricate and lay in the missing and damaged parts of the statue. The remade Thinker is on display at an exhibit at the Singer Laren called The Thinker Thinks Again through May. Breakdancing makes next move to Olympic status at Paris 2024

(Photo by MATTHEW KNIGHT / AFP) / To go with AFP story Oly-2024-CHN-breakdancing, Focus by Peter StebbingsLAUSANNE, Switzerland— Breakdancing and three other sports have made the next move toward becoming medal events at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The International Olympic Committee’s executive board on Wednesday recommended adding breakdancing, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing to the Paris program when the full membership meets in June.ADVERTISEMENT A final decision must be made by the board in December 2020 after further monitoring of the four. Also Wednesday, the IOC board agreed to continue helping North and South Korean athletes and officials work together despite diplomatic setbacks between the neighboring governments in recent days.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSPalace wants Cayetano’s PHISGOC Foundation probed over corruption chargesSPORTSSingapore latest to raise issue on SEA Games food, logisticsJoint Korean teams are being prepared in four sports to try to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and a co-hosting bid for the 2032 Summer Games is a possible aim. With those 2032 Olympics and the 2030 Winter Games in mind, a panel has been asked to look at ways of making an often expensive and politically unpopular candidate process “more flexible and more targeted.” “The IOC may approach a city or a region and tell them, ‘Listen, isn’t it not a time for you now?’” IOC President Thomas Bach said at a news conference after the second of three days of board meetings.Making the Olympic Games more affordable and responsive has been a key aim for Bach. He praised the four likely additions to the Paris medal program as “more gender balanced, more youthful and more urban”“These four sports also offer the opportunity to connect with the young generation,” he said.Though breakdancing would be new in the Summer Games, the other three are already confirmed for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics lineup. All four sports will be assessed for how they are managed, and the integrity of competitions and judging, before being finalized for Paris.ADVERTISEMENT The IOC hosted a meeting of Korean government and sports officials in February, one year after the neighbors fielded a combined teams women’s ice hockey at the Pyeongchang Olympics hosted south of the border.Last Friday, North Korea withdrew staff from a shared liaison office in its border town of Kaesong. Some staff returned to work on Monday.“We will try to continue our efforts there with a view to helping and assisting the athletes and the (national Olympic committees),” Bach said.Combined Korean teams — in women’s basketball, women’s field hockey, mixed team judo, and men’s and women’s rowing — are preparing to enter qualification this year to compete in Tokyo. If a Korean bid emerges for the 2032 Olympics, it could compete with candidates from Australia, India, Indonesia and Russia which have expressed early interest.Asked if plans to simplify Olympic bidding could see the IOC approach a favored city, Bach said it was “not our goal.”“The Olympic Games are too big and too important that you could have an arrangement with a city,” he said. The new panel of five IOC members, chaired by John Coates of Australia, aims to suggest ideas for the candidate process by the June 24-26 meeting of the full membership in Lausanne. November 7, 2019 | By admin | Comments Off on ‘PINK PANTHERS’ DOING THEIR BIT FOR CHARITY | Filed in: ercinbyyl.

first_imgThe Penrith Panthers Vawdon Cup Women’s Premier League Team will be sporting Pink headbands to raise awareness and funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) when they hit the field against 2006 State Cup finalists Wests at Bankstown at 7.00pm this Friday night 31 August, 2007.The youthful Penrith team will be wearing and selling the bright Pink headwear at Bankstown on Friday night. The fluro pink headbands are donated by AH Clothing, and the girls will be collecting cash donations from the touch fraternity in pink piggy money boxes courtesy of the ANZ Bank St. Mary’s Branch at Bankstown on Friday night before and after their game. The girls have also pledged to donate $50 for every touchdown they score against Wests, and the Penrith Touch Association are weighing in with a donation from the club.Penrith Women’s and Australian 18 Years Girls Assistant Coach Jacky Patrick and her young team were moved to do their bit to try to counter the insidious disease that affects so many families across the nation.More Women die of breast cancer than any other cancer.Over 13,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. That equates to 36 women a day, and of those, 7 will die.Jacky Patrick as a teacher and a Coach, is mindful of her young charges understanding the responsibility they have as representative players to contribute meaningfully to their friends, the touch fraternity, and the wider community, and believes this initiative is a great way to make a positive contribution to a situation that has the potential to affect so many.“Most of us have been touched in some way or another with relatives and friends who have been diagnosed with the illness. Raising funds for research into this terrible disease is a great way to show our support for the community in which we live. Our Assistant coach lost her Aunty to the disease a few years ago and one our founding players was diagnosed two years ago, so it’s close to home for us all,” Jacky said. The “Pink Panthers” join an impressive list of community conscious groups, affiliates, and individuals within our sport to pledge time, energy, money, and support generously and consistently in the fight against cancer and its various forms. Queensland affiliate Coomera Comets hold an Annual “Touched by Cancer” tournament to raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer, and the Redlands Touch Association’s 17 Years girls Team did the “Walk for Life” event in 2006 to do their bit for cancer research. In February the victorious 2007 Australian Women’s Open World Cup Touch Football Team proved themselves to be Gold medal citizens as well as Gold medal athletes with a healthy portion of their World Cup fundraising efforts being pledged to the McGrath Foundation Charity. In July NSW Level 2 Referee Francis Wood raised $1,500 when she cut her long hair off for the World’s Greatest Shave to raise funds for the fight against Leukemia. The Western Suburbs Magpies raised over  $20,000 in a  fundraiser earlier this month to carry on the work of the Millennium Foundation and the Westmead Children’s Hospital which were the charities of choice of their late Manager and team mate Matt Essey, who passed away from Cancer after a brave three year fight in May 2007.The Penrith Panthers would like to encourage all Touch Football players to make a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The NBCF can be contacted to pledge a contribution by phoning 02 92994090 and quoting the number 140028777. The challenge has now been set down by the Penrith girls for the rest of our Touch playing members across the nation to get involved with a worthwhile community initiative of their own.At Bankstown on Friday night show your support for the NBCF by purchasing a Pink Headband or making a cash donation when the girls do the rounds with their Pink Piggy moneyboxes during the night. With apologies to Wests supporters, let’s hope the ‘Pink Panthers’ cross the stripe for a few ‘meaties’ to raise as much money as possible for such a worthy cause.last_img read more
