They are now losing two more people who are being taken off the duty roster to train members of the service in other parts of the country.“We are supposed to have two crews at weekends and we often have just one. Every ambulance has to be crewed by two people but when there isn’t a second person, the first crew member can end up at base watching television for twelve hours. Watching television is not what we want to do. We want to do our job.“Meanwhile, the hospital is calling out private ambulances. If someone has private health insurance, that might cover the cost. Otherwise it’s coming out of the service budget and that’s money that could go a long way to paying for an extra nurse”.The source said that one patient who was transported from the University Hospital Limerick to Ennis Hospital by private ambulance got a bill through her insurance for €400.“And that’s for a thirty to forty minute trip”.Known as the intermediate ambulance service, the most common duties are transporting patients to and from hospitals to nursing homes or between hospitals in the MId West, which covers an area from Tipperary to the furthest reaches of county Clare.“What really slapped me in the face was when I walked into the emergency department in Limerick recently and there was an old woman on a trolley. If she hadn’t had a nappy on, then everything about her would have been exposed to the world. If we were properly staffed, we could have got her out of that situation but we’re not able to provide the service”.The source said that between May and October of last year, four people left to train in other areas or to move location. Two more people – one from the frontline paramedic service and one from the intermediate service – are also being taken out of the equation to train others, although each area already has dedicated training officers.“They’ve offered us overtime to fill the gaps in the roster but we’re being left in Limbo. Overtime money is all very well but you could be working four 12-hour shifts in a week. It’s hard to say no to a fifth but that’s not the answer”.Responding to the Limerick Post story, the National Ambulance (NAS) said in a statement: “The (NAS) are responsible for providing pre-hospital emergency care as well as providing transport services between acute hospitals and other medical care facilitates.“In order to reduce its reliance on the use of emergency ambulances in these instances, and to ensure emergency ambulances were available to respond to emergency situations when they arose, the NAS introduced an Intermediate Care transport Service (ICS).“This service is available to hospitals and is dependant on activity/resource levels. The NAS currently has vacancies and have just completed a national and international recruitment campaign for qualified paramedics.“A number of ICS staff have availed of NAS’s training and upskilling programs which have impacted on roster coverage. A recruitment and training campaign for ICV staff is expected to have additional staff operational by the end of March and thus fill ICS vacancies which have arisen. Staff have been requested to cover the roster vacancies as an interim measure. The NAS cannot comment on the use of private ambulances by hospitals. “Objective origins” is against the law in Darby, Montana (see 02/27/2004 headline). A policy change proposed by a local minister would have encouraged students to “analyze scientific strengths and weaknesses of existing scientific theories, including the theory of evolution.” It didn’t lose because of a vote on the policy, or because of the threats of litigation by Americans United for Separation of Church and State. It lost because “evolution supporter Erik Abrahamsen handily defeated incumbent chair Gina Schallenberger in a 4 May election,” according to a news item in Science.1 The Missoulian said the election was driven by the origins debate, a “rancorous battle over a controversial science policy.”1ScienceScope, Science, Volume 304, Number 5673, Issue of 14 May 2004.Science took glee in the Darwin Party victory: “Creationism Loses in Montana Town – The residents of Darby, Montana, have doused one creationist brushfire by tipping the balance of its school board.” (This was nothing about creationism, you recall; it was about letting the students hear about teaching students critical thinking skills. There was nothing at all about creationism, church and state, or religion in this policy proposal – see 04/29/2004 headline.) This story underscores the fact that ministers have no standing in public policy debates. They are disqualified before they even open their mouths. If a minister suggests anything that affects public policy, no matter how innocently worded, no matter how lawful and logically sound, it can be completely disregarded because, everyone knows, he has a religious agenda. The ACLU and the secularists in the Darwin Party have no such handicap; they present themselves as scientific, value-free, religiously neutral and objective. Pastors and ministers have been confined inside the walls of their churches. They are forbidden to have a voice in their communities. Only in church can they speak their minds, but how long can even that last? It is conceivable on the horizon that ministers will feel intimidated to speak out against the Darwin Party even to their own congregations, just like teachers are at school. Would you have suspected such harassment in the Old West? This decision shows that Darwinian evolutionism does not just affect metropolitan academia, but touches every small town school district. It also shows that critical thinking and analytical skills are not valued when the reigning dogma of Darwin is threatened. Should the Darwin Party be proud? They won an election by wearying the public over non-issues, and intimidating the townspeople with threats. Like Islamic fundamentalists, they made it illegal to criticize or even analyze their theory. They didn’t win by a reasoned debate over the evidence. Losers, take courage. Truth and politics are not synonymous. Things are going better in Alabama, it’s not over in Roseville, and a majority of Californians still favor the students’ right to hear both sides, according to two new surveys, reports the Discovery Institute. It takes time to overcome authoritarian dogmatism, but it’s worth it.(Visited 11 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0
29 July 2011 The initial focus is not only on rural areas, but also includes testing the process in high foot-traffic areas like commuter points, shopping centres and at company premises, factories, and other workplace environments – where there are also opportunities to provide banking access to new customers. High foot-traffic areas Accounts become active once an initial deposit has been made at either an ATM or Point of Sale device. This remote account opening system replaces previous, cumbersome processes involving a bulky set of laptops, barcode scanners, thermal printers and card writers – as well as more than one interaction with the customer. The on-device “app” scans a prospective customer’s ID book to identify and verify details, captures all the relevant information and enables the imaging of supporting documents. It then interfaces with Absa’s systems to conduct the relevant screening processes and complete the opening of the account. Importantly, the app allows us to access and control key functionality on the device – to record the GPS coordinates that allows us to build customer and sales data, and access the camera and data encryption functionalities. “Research into the field of financial inclusion shows that an increase in the number of people interacting with the formal economy stimulates economic growth at a national level, and positively contributes to poverty reduction.” SAinfo reporterWould you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? Most appropriate strategy Developing a mobile app of this nature is the most appropriate strategy, adds Opperman, since android is regarded as one of the most dominant mobile operating systems and is used to power a number of different smartphone and tablet devices. The smartphone/tablet apps scales easily to cater for demand, since new devices can be acquired relatively easily and placed “in the field”, while its high-tech imaging and optimised communications technologies dramatically reduce the time it takes to serve the customer. Only one interaction with a client is required. South Africa’s Absa Bank has extended its service reach with the launch of an innovative application for Android-based smartphones and tablet devices that allows its sales consultants to open accounts and issue debit cards to new customers in under 10 minutes.

The ARRI SkyPanel is one of the most versatile LED lights available.I remember using LEDs during their infancy. They offered very little output, but they had a promising future. At the time, I couldn’t commit to using them heavily on set, especially as primary key sources.I shoot a lot of documentary-, corporate-, and interview-based material, so I need a great key light for these setups. For the last few years, I was still using HMIs that would get extremely hot and require a lot of modification. Then, sometimes, I needed to gel those HMIs to match color with tungsten sources. This would then increase the size of the setup and the grip package and increase my budget.Within the last year, LEDs finally started to catch up with HMIs in terms of output and quality. A big step in that direction was the release of ARRI’s SkyPanel S120, S60, and S30. Since their release, I’ve begun using these lights quite heavily — as have many other DPs. The equipment rental house I use in Atlanta recently had to double their inventory of SkyPanels in order to keep up with the demand. The SkyPanels offer a ton of amazing features. These lights will definitely increase your workflow and help you produce better (and more efficient) videos.Image via ARRI.Strong Output The best feature of the ARRI SkyPanel is strong output that is still soft. This is a combination that has never really existed in a package this small. The S60 has roughly the equivalent of a diffused 400-watt HMI. With this level of output, you can easily use this light in almost any situation that requires a soft area light. It provides enough output that you can even use a frame of diffusion, like Lee‘s Opal or 250, to make it even softer. However, even without extra diffusion, the light still casts beautiful, soft shadows, so you can feel comfortable using it to light a face. Here are some photometrics at five meters to give you some reference on the light’s output:At 3,200KWith standard diffusion: 393 lux/37 fcWith light diffusion: 462 lux/43 fcWith heavy diffusion: 320 lux/30 fcWith intensifier: 511 lux/47 fcAt 5,600KWith standard diffusion: 416 lux/39 fcWith light diffusion: 489 lux/45 fcWith heavy diffusion: 338 lux/31 fcWith intensifier: 541 lux/50 fcColors and Gel Library The SkyPanel features an exceptional library of Lee and Rosco gels. If you want the exact color of Lee 1/4 CTO, for example, it’s programmed directly into the light, and you can correct the light color exactly to that gel. The light also allows you to adjust hues. If you want party gel colors, you can tune those directly into the LEDs without having to use and sort gels in front of the light.Overall, the ARRI SkyPanel is a very versatile light that you can use in most settings. As far as soft source LED lighting, it’s now my go-to choice on pretty much any set.Have you used the ARRI SkyPanel? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
If you don’t know how to use them, DaVinci Resolve’s Auto Select controls can trip up your workflow. Here’s everything you need to know about this highly useful (but sometimes tricky) tool.Whenever you jump headfirst into new software, there’s always that one feature that keeps tripping you up, and it usually takes a bit of time to figure out what is going wrong. In DaVinci Resolve that feature is the Auto Select control. It might be one of the most important functions on the timeline because it will directly cause edits on the various tracks on your timeline to perform differently. The Auto Select is a multipurpose control that can increase the efficiency of an edit. What does it do? Its function is to allow editors to specify which tracks will undergo changes during an edit to multiple tracks. For example, in the screenshot below, I want to make an insert edit with the video and audio from the source monitor. I want the media to land in V1 and A1, so I have selected those tracks. I want the current media on those tracks to ripple forward, and I also need the score on A3 to remain as it is, and for the clip in V2 to continue the fade out. However, when I do so, the insert edit has affected all of the tracks with clips that extend through the marked area. It’s separated the video on V2, along with the score on A3, even though I was only inserting it to tracks V1 and A1. This is because the Auto Select is on for all tracks (it’s on by default). Now, let’s deactivate the Auto Select by turning off the Auto Select button on the track tools. Here, I’ve turned Auto Select off on tracks V2 and A3, and now when I insert edit, something a little different happens. Both the video and audio from the two deactivated tracks have been omitted from the process. We can see from this very simple edit that the Auto Select controls can be ideal for editing multiple tracks — or cause headaches if you only want to affect one track. An obvious question is Why not just lock the track? When you lock a track, you completely remove the ability to perform any edit on the track or the individual clips. There may be some circumstances when this is the better tool to use — perhaps locking down a score to remain in place. But this is precisely the point of Auto Select: you are not disabling edits, you’re just removing the track from a multi-track operation — and there are plenty of operations that will respond differently depending on the state of Auto Select:CuttingRipple cuttingCopyingDeleting clipsDeleting gapsSelecting edit pointsSelecting clipsMarking clipsMatch framePasting clipsPaste insertInsert editRipple overwrite editFinding gapsUsing the Selection Follows Playhead function.Further, you can also manually override the Auto Select function by manually clicking on a clip on a track that doesn’t have Auto Select active — an operation that isn’t possible with a locked track. If you’re an editor who loves to keep your hands on the keyboard as much as possible, you’ll be happy to know that you can manage up to eight video and eight audio tracks with shortcuts. You can turn each video track’s Auto Select on and off with keyboard shortcuts F1 through to F8, and audio tracks Ctrl+shift+F1 through to F8 (Option+CMD if you’re using a mac).Last year, when I was undergoing training on Resolve 12.5, the course leader said that Auto Select is one of those edit functions that you have to try and perform to understand how it works, and I want to echo those words. As with the Slip and Slide trim edits, Auto Select controls can be a little confusing when you’re simply reading about them. But once you open Resolve and perform a few multi-track edits with the Auto Select, you’ll see how beneficial the control is. If you’re here solely because your timeline has been playing up and you’re not sure why, well, now you have an answer.Lewis McGregor is a certified BlackMagic Design DaVinci Resolve Trainer.
Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday accused the West Bengal police of “arresting” party spokesperson Samanay Bandopadhyay for circulating posts critical of the Trinamool Congress government.‘Arrested from home’ Family members and party sources said that Mr. Bandopadhyay was “arrested” by a team of Purulia district police from his home in North 24 Parganas district on Thursday evening. The West Bengal police and Purulia district police neither confirmed nor denied having arrested or detained Mr. Bandopadhyay. “We will get back to you,” a senior official of Purulia police said when enquired about the alleged arrest. Mr. Bandopadhyay is known for his staunch criticism of the TMC government through his social media posts. “The arrest of Samanay Bandopadhyay is a classic example of intolerance of the highest order. Mr. Bandopadhyay was arrested from his home for criticising the State government. Such blatant attack on the freedom of speech and expression by the government will not stop us from protesting against the ruling dispensation. We condemn such undemocratic assault on the freedom of speech and political terrorism unleashed by the Mamata Banerjee government,” Mr. Chowdhury said. Reacting to the allegations, senior TMC leader and party Chief Whip in State Assembly Nirmal Ghosh said, “Mr. Bandopadhyay has been arrested as there were several criminal charges against him. It has nothing to do with criticism of the State government.” The BJP leadership also slammed the State government over the arrest. The CPI(M) and Congress activists on Friday staged a protest outside Khardah police station against the alleged arrest. Mr. Bandopadhyay’s house at Sodepur falls under the jurisdiction of Khardah police station. The incident is reminiscent of the arrest of Jadavpur University professor Ambikesh Mahapatra in April 2012 for posting cartoons of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the Internet.
