A rise in US LNG exports in late 2020 supported a rebound in natural gas prices New pipeline infrastructure can help boost US liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports by connecting Appalachia Basin shale plays to Gulf Coast processing facilities. The region’s Marcellus and Utica shale formations accounted for 40% of US natural gas production in 2020, but their outlook is closely tied to demand for LNG exports.Henry Hub natural gas spot prices averaged their lowest in decades in 2020, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) – hit by a mild winter and a fall in energy demand during the pandemic – but growth in US LNG exports towards the end of the year helped spark a slight rebound. The EIA expects Henry Hub prices to average $3.01 per million British thermal units (MBtu) in 2021, rising to $3.27 per MBtu in 2022. That compares to an average price of just $2.03 per MBtu in 2020.Rising prices are encouraging many companies to increase drilling and completion activities, according to research group GlobalData, but without improved transport infrastructure Marcellus and Utica producers will struggle to connect with LNG processing and export facilities to the south.“While other plays near the Gulf Coast such as the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford and Haynesville are better located to provide natural gas to meet LNG feedstock demand, the Marcellus and Utica can also play a relevant role in supplying the new LNG facilities located on the Gulf Coast – but additional pipeline capacity will be needed,” the group said. Appalachia natural gas production grew in 2020, despite pandemic constraintsThe US – which is the world’s top natural gas producer – is targeting near-term growth in its LNG export capacity, aiming to ship 8.50 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) this year, compared to 6.53 bcf/d in 2020 and 5 bcf/d in 2019.GlobalData says current US LNG export capacity stands at 9.17 bcf/d, and “with current planned and under-construction projects, this value will grow to 11.97 bcf/d in 2023”.Analyst Andrew Folse added: “For the Appalachia Basin to significantly grow production in the future it will need to gain more access in infrastructure to transport natural gas, in particular for reaching the LNG plants in the Gulf Coast.”“In the meantime, the basin will continue to play a key role in supplying other non-LNG related natural gas demand in other US regions such as the Northeast and the Midwest.”In contrast to the oil industry, which has been forced into huge production cuts in the face of low demand and falling crude prices, natural gas production has weathered coronavirus disruption comparatively well over the past year.Where average US crude oil production fell 7.4% from 2019 to 2020, the EIA says natural gas output in the country dropped by 2.5% year-on-year to 90.8 bcf/d. But across the Appalachian Basin in particular, GlobalData notes that natural gas production increased from 32.19 bcf/d in 2019 to 33.44 bcf/d in 2020.The group adds that while major oil-producers slashed their 2020 capital expenditure up to 50-60% in response to the financial upheaval caused by the pandemic, the top three producers in the Appalachia Basin – EQT, Antero Resources and Southwestern Energy – have cut their capital only by 20%, 35% and 40%, respectively. Analysts say Marcellus and Utica shale plays in Appalachia need better infrastructure connections to supply natural gas to US Gulf Coast LNG facilities

Augustin, left, looks to pass under the basket ass Los Angeles Clippers’ Tobias Harris (34) defends during the second half of an NBA basketball game Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, in Los Angeles. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez)LOS ANGELES — Typically the lead runner on the Los Angeles Clippers’ four-quarter relay squad, Tobias Harris forced his team into a change of plans — and the adjustment worked out just fine Sunday.Harris, one of the NBA’s top first-quarter scorers, started slow but still ended up with 28 points and the Clippers overcame a sluggish opening to beat the Orlando Magic 106-96 on Sunday.ADVERTISEMENT The Magic, though, made one last push. Orlando pulled even at 72 with just over 10 minutes remaining on Terrance Ross’ three free throws, and the Clippers countered with a 17-2 run to take an 89-74 lead with 6:37 remaining. The start of the Clippers’ decisive run included a five-point trip, when Montrezl Harrel was fouled on a dunk, missed the free throw, and Williams made a 3-pointer.“I thought defensively we were playing well (early), but offensively we weren’t making shots,” Williams said. “But when you (are a player that scores) you can’t allow that to bother you and I think that showed. I think that tonight we had high attempts and probably had low field-goal percentages but we just continued to play and continued to show up.”After shooting 38.3-percent from the field in the first half, the Clippers went 47.8 percent in the second half to finish at 43 percent, well under their 45.7-percent mark for the season. The Magic was undone by their 34.1-percent shooting in the second half, including a 5-of-16 mark after halftime from 3-point range.“I took two guys out because they were hesitant to shoot because they missed the open ones,” Clifford said. “You got to keep shooting. But I thought our effort was good enough.”GORTAT’S NATIONAL PRIDEGortat scored eight points with 10 rebounds as the native of Poland received plenty of playing time while the Clippers celebrated Polish Heritage Day. He played a season-high 25 minutes.“I felt like a lot of guys were trying to help me today and I truly appreciate getting a few more minutes,” said Gortat, who addressed a large contingent of Polish fans estimated at 1,500 following the game. “I’m glad I was able to help the team and the most important thing was (the) win. I don’t care about my stat-line at the end.”TIP-INS Nikola Vucevic had 16 points and 24 rebounds for Orlando. Aaron Gordon added 17 points, and D.J. Augistine and Evan Fournier each had 12. The Magic have lost two straight and seven of 10, and are 1-3 on a six-game trip.“I’ll be honest, without watching the film, and I’m not really like this, but we missed a bunch of wide-open shots,” Magic coach Steve Clifford said. “I think there were drives in the lane that we have to make to beat a team as good as they are while on the road. Our spot-up 3s, they don’t go in the basket and it made us hesitant.”Vucevic had 11 rebounds in the first quarter to help the Magic take a 28-18 lead, but they blew a double-digit first-half lead for the second consecutive game after falling at Minnesota on Friday night.“We just couldn’t make shots,” Vucevic said. “I feel like we had a good amount of good looks we just didn’t make. I thought our defense was pretty good, for the most part, we just couldn’t make enough shots. We really struggled tonight.”Orlando led 47-45 at halftime, and the Clippers took their first lead just under two minutes into the second half on Marcin Gortat’s turnaround basket. The Clippers struggled from the field in the opening quarter, shooting just 7 of 26. Orlando led by as many as 15 points before the Clippers rallied with a half-ending 21-12 run.ADVERTISEMENT LATEST STORIES Harris, who entered with the fifth most first-quarter points at 286, was 0 for 6 from the field in the opening 12 minutes with zero points.“In all seriousness, I settle in and just take the pressure off myself with the missed shots and just focus on the team,” Harris said.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSUrgent reply from Philippine football chiefSPORTSSEA Games: Biñan football stadium stands out in preparedness, completionThe Clippers trailed by 10 after one quarter, when they shot 7 of 26, and by 15 in the second quarter before wearing down the Magic from there. zoom The 18,000 TEU containership CMA CGM Vasco De Gama ran aground in August 2016 as it was too far north of the intended track when it started turning into the Thorn Channel near the Port of Southampton. The 399-meter-long ship grounded on the western side of the channel in the early morning hours of August 22 with two Southampton pilots aboard. The ship’s position at the time of the turining into the Thorn Channel reduced the sea room available for the manoeuvre and, given the environmental conditions, CMA CGM Vasco de Gama was unable to sustain the rate of turn required to remain in the dredged channel, a report released by the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) showed. The execution of the vessel’s turn around Bramble Bank and into the Thorn Channel by the lead pilot was not in accordance with the port’s guidance for large inbound vessels.CMA CGM Vasco de Gama’s bridge team, assistant pilot and the Vessel Trafic Services, could not usefully monitor the lead pilot’s actions, or the vessel’s progress through the Precautionary Area, because “a detailed pilotage plan had not been produced; the lead pilot’s intended manoeuvre around Bramble Bank was not explained; the bridge team roles and responsibilities were unclear; and the electronic navigation aids on board were not fully utilised.”The investigation identifed that the vessel’s bridge team and the port pilots had the experience, knowledge and resources available to efectively plan and execute the pilotage. However, the standards of navigation displayed during the pilotage fell short of the standards expected by CMA Ships and Associated British Ports.“It was apparent that complacency and a degree of over confidence on the part of the master and port pilots contributed to this accident,” MAIB said.Actions have been taken by CMA Ships and Associated British Ports to address some of the issues identifed in this report and to improve navigational safety.MAIB added that recommendations aimed at reducing the likelihood of future groundings and improving levels of navigation, bridge resource management, and use of electronic navigation aids have been made to CMA Ships and Associated British Ports.
MINNEAPOLIS — Google is looking into building a $600 million data centre in central Minnesota that would be powered by two wind farms.Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy disclosed the data centre project Thursday in a regulatory filing. The Google facility proposed in Becker would mark one of the largest private construction projects in recent state history and create about 50 full-time tech jobs.Becker Mayor Tracy Bertram says the city is among several sites under consideration. Bertram says the plan calls for most of the facility’s electricity to come from renewable sources.Under the proposed agreement, Xcel would sell Google land for the facility and provide electricity service.Xcel says the project would help the utility and the area transition from its reliance on the Sherco plant, the state’s largest coal-fired power plant. The Associated Press

Uluberia/Krishnanagar: BJP president Amit Shah on Monday said his party will scrap Article 370 of the Constitution which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir and introduce National Register for Citizens across the country after returning to power.Shah accused TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee of questioning the air strikes to “appease” her minority vote bank and wryly said she can do “Ilu Ilu” (I love you) with Pakistan but if that country fire bullets on us we would respond with cannon balls. Also Read – Uddhav bats for ‘Sena CM’On the campaign trail in West Bengal’s Uluberia Lok Sabha seat in Howrah and Krishnanagar constituency in Nadia, Shah demanded the TMC chief to clarify whether she too favoured a separate prime minister for Jammu and Kashmir like her ally National Conference leader Omar Abdullah. ‘Apko (Mamata) Pakistan ke saath ilu ilu (I love you) karna hain toh kijiye. Lekin agar Pakistan goli marega toh hum gola marenge’ (If you are interested in showing love with Pakistan, you can do that but we would respond to their bullets with canon balls), Shah said, referring to the popular Hindi song from a film in the early 1990s. “We will remove Article 370 from Kashmir after forming the next BJP government at the Centre. The Congress and Trinamool Congress want Article 370 to stay. We will also introduce NRC across the country,” Shah told an election rally here. “For us, national security is supreme unlike Mamata didi for whom infiltrators are vote bank. We will identify them and throw them out,” Shah said. Lashing out at the chief minister for allegedly running a “mafia raj” in Bengal, the BJP president also claimed that the state has topped the chart in cow smuggling and become a safe haven for infiltrators. Also Read – Farooq demands unconditional release of all detainees in J&KUrging the people to ensure that the BJP wins more than 23 out of 42 seats in the state, Shah said it would ensure that the syndicate raj ends within 90 days in Bengal. The BJP had two seats in Bengal in 2014 against TMC 34, but after a good performance in the rural polls and some bypolls last year, the saffron party is buoyed to break the monopoly of Banerjee’s party in the eastern state. In West Bengal, ‘syndicate’ means the business run by persons allegedly enjoying political patronage, who force promoters and contractors to buy construction materials, often of inferior quality at high prices.
Rabat- Morocco opened this Thursday alien offices nationwide to start processing requests of undocumented immigrants, in accordance with instructions of King Mohammed VI for a more humane migration and asylum policy. “This is an important day for undocumented immigrants who do not only come from Africa, but also from several other regions, mostly Asia, said Morocco’s interior minister Charki Draiss who dedicated the Rabat’s alien office with minister in charge of Moroccans living abroad and of migration affairs, Anis Birou. He added that the number of undocumented immigrants in Morocco has reached according to the interior ministry’s estimates around 25,000 to 300,000, noting that this exceptional regularization operation will help to know the exact number of foreigners living in Morocco without legal stay documents and will help improve their social-economic conditions.“It is a great day for immigrants and for Morocco”, said secretary general of the Democratic organization of immigrant workers in Morocco, Marcel Amiyeto, who noted that 250 undocumented immigrants are present in the office for the first day of this operation. The operation, to last till December 31, concerns foreigners married to Moroccan nationals, those who have been living in Morocco with another foreigner, legally settled in Morocco for at least 4 years, children of these two categories, foreigners who have work contracts of at least two years, foreigners who have been living in Morocco continuously for at least 5 years, and foreigners who suffer from serious diseases.
