First Lady Weah Raps on Girls’ Education in France

first_imgMrs. Weah (2nd from right) posed with others.First Lady Clar Marie Weah has been making a case for Liberian girls relative to education in Paris, France, recently, a release from the First Lady’s office in Monrovia has said.According to the release, Madam Weah elaborated on the current situation of girls’ education in the country at an event organized by French First Lady Madam Brigitte Macron.Madam Weah also craved for support from Mrs. Macron to augment efforts by the Liberian government in ensuring that girls not only enroll, but remain in school.She believes that investing in girls’ education is crucial for achieving gender equality and ensuring sustainable development in Liberia and across the world.According to the release, advocating for girls’ education is part of Madam Weah’s flagship program through the She’s You Movement, aimed at empowering women for a better and prosperous Liberia.The event, held on the sidelines of the Paris Forum under the theme, “Educating the Girl Child,” also brought together several African First Ladies. Teen given 2nd chance after threatening stepmother

first_imgA teenager who threatened to burn down his stepmother’s home was on Thursday given a chance to make amends when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Eighteen-year-old Edward Motilal, of Lot 113 Unity Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD), admitted to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.The Court heard that on July 30, 2018, at Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD), he used threatening language towards his stepmother, Luanna Walker, whereby breaching the peace.According to facts presented to the Court, on the day in question, the defendant got into an argument with the Virtual Complainant (VC) over a pair of shoes and he threatened to burn the house down. The VC became afraid and made a report at the Diamond Police Outpost.In his defence, Motilal told the Court that he was abused by Walker and her daughter for wearing his brother’s shoes.“I just put on de shoe and went to lime with my friends on the corner, then I hear they calling me, but I didn’t go then, I see they come out to me and start slapping me and then de daughter pull off de shoe, then I start cuss up,” the teen explained.However, the VC’s daughter, who appeared on behalf of her mother, said that her stepbrother had a mental issue and as such, her mother wanted him to be removed from their home.The matter was discharged by the Chief Magistrate after it was related to her that Motilal had a mental health problem.last_img read more
