ECOWAS Citizens Warned

first_imgThe Liberian government is warning all ECOWAS citizens desirous of residing or seeking employment in Liberia to “obtain an official ECOWAS bio-metric Identification card” before entering into such arrangement.According to Labor Minister Neto Zarzar Lighe, Sr. the new regulation is intended to properly inform government’s data management system in order to advise the “informal business sector” of the economy.Atty. Lighe explained that the move is in compliance with Regulation 17, Section 2, which came into effect on September 16, 2009 and as such, his ministry is “ready for a nationwide enforcement exercise.”The sixty (60) day ultimatum which started on February 26 and ends April 26, will have no extension, and as such, “ECOWAS citizens operating and or seeking employment within the informal sector of Liberia must obtain their work permits either in Montserrado or from the regional offices of the Ministry of Labor in the leeward counties in keeping with Category B.“Our offices are open from Monday thru Friday weekly and we encourage those concerned to take advantage because the entire process is less time consuming.“The entire process only takes 30 minutes so there is no need for the public to run from it.“This regulation requires that ECOWAS citizens who seek employment in the informal business sector are to pay a work permit fee of US$100.00,” the Labor boss said.According to him, all concerned are required to adhere to this mandate as violators will each be fined US$500.00 (five hundred United States Dollars).Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more
