Doe Castle in all its splendour.Donegal’s famous Doe Castle is to open to the public from Sunday next, July 12th, 2015.Local group Mevagh Moving Forward, in conjunction with Donegal Local Development Company, have arranged for guided tours of the grounds and the Castle, where visitors will be able to explore and be given a historic tour of this wonderful building.Following restoration works at the end of the last century, the Castle has been closed to members of the public ever since.Following discussions between Moving Mevagh Forward and DLDC with Minister Joe McHugh, the Minister raised the matter with the Minister for the Office of Public Works, Simon Harris TD, who was strongly supportive of the initiative.A proposal by MMF and DLDC to set up a TÚS initiative in order to facilitate greater public access at Doe Castle was submitted and accepted by the Department, subject to certain Health and Safety issues which are being addressed.Doe Castle plays a very important historic and heritage role in the area; its walls have seen many famous figures from throughout Irish history, such as Red Hugh O’Donnell, Owen Roe O’Neill and the infamous Maolmhuire an Bhata Bhuí.The location of Doe Castle, so near to the Wild Atlantic Way, has a history of attracting tourists to the area and with the addition of the very popular WAW, this will only help enhance greater visitor numbers to the Castle and help the community reap the benefits of this positive brand and initiative. Its proximity to Fanad Lighthouse, a Signature Point along the WAW, is yet another strongpoint and will also encourage visitors to the area. The grounds are presently being opened by Jean Moore, Doe each day and this arrangement will continue. The keep (fortified tower within the Castle) will be open on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays throughout the summer with guided tours starting at 11am and as requested during the day. There will be no charge. The official opening will take place on Friday, July 10th at 7.30pm in the Castle grounds by Minister of State, Joe McHugh TD.DONEGAL’S ICONIC DOE CASTLE TO OPEN TO THE PUBLIC was last modified: July 7th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)
The scrapping of plans to build a €1.5 million Sea Survival Training Centre at Greencastle has been criticised as “outrageous” today by Donegal Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn. There was shock and disappointment following confirmation from Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) that they do not intend to proceed with building the new state of the art facility.Answers are now being demanded from the Minister for the Marine, Michael Creed. Senator Mac Lochlainn is seeking a commitment from the Minister that his department will ensure that BIM has the financial resources to deliver on this project that had been first announced in 2016.Senator Mac Lochlainn said: “This is an outrageous and reckless decision. This €1.5 million centre was announced back in 2016, just before the general election by government politicians including Minister Joe McHugh.”At the time, it was stated that the new centre would include the development of a fifteen metre simulator pool, an elevated platform equipped with a wave machine, water spray unit and fans capable of simulating the type of extreme weather conditions fishermen are often faced with.“And that the centre would also be equipped with two changing areas, a self-contained heating unit which can maintain water temperatures of 23-28 degrees Celsius, as well as a water treatment unit and a new classroom which can accommodate sixteen students.“This would allow the college to replicate weather conditions and provide a more extensive training course with the only other centre of its kind to be found in Cork at the other end of the island.”. Senator Mac Lochlainn said he will not accept that this promised centre was “just another pre-election political stunt”.He added: “I have submitted parliamentary questions to the Minister for the Marine, Michael Creed and I am demanding answers from BIM. I have also requested that the Minister ensure that his department officials meet with BIM to establish how they can ensure that the financial resources are available to make this essential centre a reality.“Surely we have learned from too many tragedies at sea how important it is to train and test our fishers in surroundings that accurately reflect the tough conditions that they will face at sea.”Scrapping of €1.5M Sea Survival Training Centre is ‘outrageous’ was last modified: June 19th, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)
There were dramatic scenes at Fort Dunree in Inishowen this morning after a fire broke out at the military museum. The alarm was raised at 9.45am, when staff at the museum noticed smoke coming from one of the outbuildings. Large flames soon emerged under the windy conditions. The Buncrana Fire Service arrived quickly on the scene and had the situation under control within minutes. Video via Fort Dunree Military MuseumThe building, which was a former Officers’ Mess, was unoccupied at the time and there were no injuries from this morning’s incident.Firefighters have cordoned off the area and the Fort Dunree museum is open to the public as normal. The abandoned outhouse is one of many buildings which have been preserved from an immensely important time in Donegal’s history. The Fort Dunree military museum is a popular tourist destination on the Wild Atlantic Way, with many military memorabilia and artefacts on site. A spokesperson at the museum expressed their thanks to Buncrana Fire Service for extinguishing the fire.“A big thank you to the fire brigade, we really appreciate them coming so quick.”Video: Firefighters tackle large blaze at historic Fort Dunree was last modified: July 3rd, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:fireFORT DUNREEInishowen
The Easter weekend is a crucial time for most clubs but for our local non-League teams it presents them with some of the biggest matches of the season.Last Saturday, relegation threatened Hayes & Yeading United pulled off one of the shock results of the weekend when they grabbed a last-minute goal to win 2-1 at high-flying Southport.Nas Bashir’s struggling side have now won three of their last six games and look like being the only team currently in the Blue Square Bet Premier bottom four who could escape. However, with only five games to bridge a four-point gap the task is still a tough one.The challenge begins with a home game on Saturday against Cambridge United. The U’s are currently 11th and realistically have little to play for at this stage of the season. On Monday United face a far harder opponent in Luton Town, who are still scrapping for points to ensure a place in the play-offs. They currently lie three points outside the top five but have two games in hand so will want the win just as much as the visitors.Hampton & Richmond Borough continue their fight to avoid relegation from the Blue Square Bet South against Farnborough on Saturday. The Beavers’ recent resurgence has lifted them out of the bottom three but they suffered their first defeat in seven on Monday night at Boreham Wood as they used up one of their two games in hand.Given their overall improved form, manager Mark Harper will be disappointed if his side do not pick up three points as Farnborough are on a poor run which has seen them lose four of their last five games.Arguably the match of the weekend for our local sides will take place at Uxbridge’s Honeycroft ground on Monday night when Hampton then take on Wealdstone in the Middlesex Senior Cup final. This game provides both clubs with the chance of winning a decent bit of silverware and it is quite hard to call who will win.Although the Stones play a division below in the Ryman League, they have had a generally far more positive season than their opponents and with 42-goal striker Richard Jolly (pictured above) in their team should provide decent opposition. It is not just about the cup though for Gordon Bartlett’s team, who also have a very real chance of stealing into the play-offs right at the death.Despite a lengthy fixture backlog, brought on by their cup commitments, they are still winning and are now just five points off fifth place with seven games to go.A win on Saturday at home to Kingstonian, a side who by their own manager’s admission have only just relinquished their promotion ambitions, would really lift them. However, for many Stones fans the match of the week is on Wednesday night when they travel the short distance to Earlsmead for the derby against Harrow Borough. The rivalry between these two is probably as intense as it gets between any non-League clubs in the West London Sport area. The last time they met, on Boxing Day, Boro were crushed 4-0 in front of a crowd of nearly 900 – almost double the Stones’ average attendance. With it being midweek and QPR also playing at home it’s unlikely to reach that level this time, but with Harrow also chasing every point to avoid the drop, the crowd should be substantial. An away win would appear to be the likely outcome but Dave Anderson’s Boro side are really unpredictable at the moment.Back-to-back defeats against Aveley and Canvey Island plunged them back into the relegation zone but on Tuesday they picked up a resounding 3-0 win at East Thurrock, which saw them jump three places back up the table.A victory at fifth-placed Cray Wanderers, who recently lost at home to struggling Leatherhead, on Saturday could see them end the day six points above the relegation places with just four matches to play. One side who would really profit from a Harrow win would be Hendon, who are still just one point behind Cray. The Greens, who play in Wembley, have a very agreeable looking Easter fixture list with matches against mid-table Margate and north London rivals Wingate & Finchley.Although both these sides could mathematically still be promoted or relegated it is very unlikely either will happen, meaning they will have little other than pride to play for.Given how close the battle for fifth place in the Ryman Premier currently is, two wins appear almost essential if Hendon are to keep up.All Premier and Football League season-ticket holders get half-price admission to all our local non-league sides’ home league matches. 18 July 2013Brand South Africa staff and suppliers joined people from across the world in celebrating Nelson Mandela International Day on Thursday by bringing gifts and cheer to children at the Ebenezer Hannah Home in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg.South Africans, and people from around the world, were asked to set aside 67 minutes on Mandela Day to give back by making a positive social change in the communities where they live – to donate their time and resources to make it a day to remember for those who are less fortunate.Brand South Africa and its supplier companies went beyond 67 minutes on Thursday, spending the whole day with the children at the home.Apart from giving out various presents of toys, educational items and shoes, those present made it a day to cherish by playing with the children – some helping them with reading, others with singing, and others by turning up the music and dancing with the children. The Ebenezer Hannah Home is an NGO catering for the orphaned, elderly and destitute. It caters for people in the informal settlements of Thula Mtwana, Sweet Waters, Bheka Phambili and Majazane in the deep south of Johannesburg.Established in 1992, the home is run by founders Thomas and Shirley Merime, whose life story is the stuff movies are made off.The couple both grew up in orphanages as Thomas’s parents abandoned him, while Shirley’s mother died of cancer. After roaming the streets, Shirley ended up at the Roman Catholic Orphanage in Pofadder in the Northern Cape, where she met Thomas.Shirley, a qualified teacher and Thomas, a building contractor, married and had children years later after settling in Eldorado Park in the south of Johannesburg, but their struggle continued.Thomas had a violent streak and would victimise his family, which led to the couple divorcing and Shirley taking the children with her. Thomas said: “I lost everything and nobody wanted anything to do with me. I was in the gutter.”But Shirley said she never stopped praying for the man she had met as a 10-year-old at the orphanage, and this led to the down-and-out Thomas becoming a pastor. He said: “I not only got my family back, but also everything else I had lost and much more. Look at the size of my family at the moment.”Brand South Africa has been involved with the Ebenezer Hannah Home for a few years now, having helped repaint parts of the old age home on Mandela Day in 2012, and donating R20 000 to the institution on Mandela Day in 2011.Source: Play Your Part
9 Books That Make Perfect Gifts for Industry Ex… curt hopkins Related Posts 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App 5 Outdoor Activities for Beating Office Burnout Following up their creation of an exact replica of King Tut’s mummy, Belgian company iMaterialise has helped to repair Rodin’s famous sculpture The Thinker. In 2007, the Singer Laren Museum in the Netherlands, where The Thinker resided, was burglarized. The meatheads who broke in did so not to steal the art, but to steal the metal. They made off with seven sculptures and started to try to chop them up to sell for scrap. Six of the sculptures were utterly destroyed but a badly damaged Thinker was recovered. Quite aside from its artistic merit, it is worth, on the open market, up to $10 million. So the Singer Laren needed to figure out how to deal with the butchered figure. iMaterialise had an idea. They did a CT scan of the damaged figure. Then they scanned the original mold retained by the Musee Rodin in Paris. They printed out a full-sized copy from the original on their Mammoth 3D printer. The Mammoth uses a photopolymer resin to form the product in sections about six feet in length. The CT scans are imported and rendered using Materialise’s software. Lasers guide the shape, laying down thin sheets until they build up into the figure. A modeler finishes, adding texture and color. The conservators at the Singer Laren have used that and the scans of the original to re-fabricate and lay in the missing and damaged parts of the statue. The remade Thinker is on display at an exhibit at the Singer Laren called The Thinker Thinks Again through May. Tags:#Fanhattan#Streaming video 5 Outdoor Activities for Beating Office Burnout Fanhattan just put up a somewhat amazing post on its corporate blog describing how hard it is to find specific movies or TV shows on various streaming video services. Sure, this is why Fanhattan exists – it’s an app that lets you scan a bunch of streaming sites to find what you want. But I had no idea how crazy things are in the world of streaming content. To make a point, Fanhattan looks at horror movies (“screaming media,” nyuk nyuk) that you might want to watch on Halloween. There’s lots of stuff online, but it’s scattered all over the place.Fanhattan reckons there are 2,300 horror movies that can be streamed right now. However: “About 71% of the horror movies currently available are exclusive to a single digital media source and more than 22% can be accessed on only two sources.” Of the 100 top Halloween movies curated by Fanhattan this year, about 65% are available from just one source, and about 25% are available from only two sources. 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App Worse yet, even specific horror franchises get split up and spread across different streaming platforms, so if you want to watch an entire series you need to deal with a bunch of different services. Says Fanhattan: “Hostel is available for rent on Amazon Prime and purchase on iTunes. But Hostel: Part II is only available on iTunes right now. Hostel: Part III is available with a Netflix subscription and for sale on iTunes.”But wait, it gets even worse, because all of this is changing all the time, as content providers keep moving stuff around. So a movie might show up on one service this week but be gone next week. That’s why Fanhattan exists. The app pulls together content from 16 video distribution services. “Our aim is to simplify what has become strikingly complex – finding what’s on,” a spokesperson says.Someday maybe Hollywood and its streaming partners will get their act together. Until then, Fanhattan has a market opportunity.Images courtesy of Shutterstock and Fanhattan. 9 Books That Make Perfect Gifts for Industry Ex… 12 Unique Gifts for the Hard-to-Shop-for People… Related Posts dan lyons
If you don’t know how to use them, DaVinci Resolve’s Auto Select controls can trip up your workflow. Here’s everything you need to know about this highly useful (but sometimes tricky) tool.Whenever you jump headfirst into new software, there’s always that one feature that keeps tripping you up, and it usually takes a bit of time to figure out what is going wrong. In DaVinci Resolve that feature is the Auto Select control. It might be one of the most important functions on the timeline because it will directly cause edits on the various tracks on your timeline to perform differently. The Auto Select is a multipurpose control that can increase the efficiency of an edit. What does it do? Its function is to allow editors to specify which tracks will undergo changes during an edit to multiple tracks. For example, in the screenshot below, I want to make an insert edit with the video and audio from the source monitor. I want the media to land in V1 and A1, so I have selected those tracks. I want the current media on those tracks to ripple forward, and I also need the score on A3 to remain as it is, and for the clip in V2 to continue the fade out. However, when I do so, the insert edit has affected all of the tracks with clips that extend through the marked area. It’s separated the video on V2, along with the score on A3, even though I was only inserting it to tracks V1 and A1. This is because the Auto Select is on for all tracks (it’s on by default). Now, let’s deactivate the Auto Select by turning off the Auto Select button on the track tools. Here, I’ve turned Auto Select off on tracks V2 and A3, and now when I insert edit, something a little different happens. Both the video and audio from the two deactivated tracks have been omitted from the process. We can see from this very simple edit that the Auto Select controls can be ideal for editing multiple tracks — or cause headaches if you only want to affect one track. An obvious question is Why not just lock the track? When you lock a track, you completely remove the ability to perform any edit on the track or the individual clips. There may be some circumstances when this is the better tool to use — perhaps locking down a score to remain in place. But this is precisely the point of Auto Select: you are not disabling edits, you’re just removing the track from a multi-track operation — and there are plenty of operations that will respond differently depending on the state of Auto Select:CuttingRipple cuttingCopyingDeleting clipsDeleting gapsSelecting edit pointsSelecting clipsMarking clipsMatch framePasting clipsPaste insertInsert editRipple overwrite editFinding gapsUsing the Selection Follows Playhead function.Further, you can also manually override the Auto Select function by manually clicking on a clip on a track that doesn’t have Auto Select active — an operation that isn’t possible with a locked track. If you’re an editor who loves to keep your hands on the keyboard as much as possible, you’ll be happy to know that you can manage up to eight video and eight audio tracks with shortcuts. You can turn each video track’s Auto Select on and off with keyboard shortcuts F1 through to F8, and audio tracks Ctrl+shift+F1 through to F8 (Option+CMD if you’re using a mac).Last year, when I was undergoing training on Resolve 12.5, the course leader said that Auto Select is one of those edit functions that you have to try and perform to understand how it works, and I want to echo those words. As with the Slip and Slide trim edits, Auto Select controls can be a little confusing when you’re simply reading about them. But once you open Resolve and perform a few multi-track edits with the Auto Select, you’ll see how beneficial the control is. If you’re here solely because your timeline has been playing up and you’re not sure why, well, now you have an answer.Lewis McGregor is a certified BlackMagic Design DaVinci Resolve Trainer.
