He’s a good player but any of them are too.”It’s a sensitive decision, if you made a list of 50 then number 51 and 52 would miss out too, you have to accept it, respect it and support it.”Morata will now be watching on from afar when 2010 champions Spain open their latest campaign against Portugal on June 15, before going on to face Iran and Morocco in Group B.last_img read more

Kane and Unable! England must improve feeble finishing

No, not the plague of flies that have taken over Volgograd in recent days but, somewhat remarkably, the England football team. Gareth Southgate has long promised a brave new dawn of exciting, aggressive, possession-based football from the Three Lions, and throughout his tenure the signs have certainly been there that he might just come good on his word. But this is a major tournament. England never produce in a major tournament. Certainly not since the turn of the millennium.  Article continues below Editors’ Picks Out of his depth! Emery on borrowed time after another abysmal Arsenal display Diving, tactical fouls & the emerging war of words between Guardiola & Klopp Sorry, Cristiano! Pjanic is Juventus’ most important player right now Arsenal would be selling their soul with Mourinho move Here they were, though, at times during the first 35 minutes of their World Cup opener, tearing through the Tunisia defence with ease. That was, until, they realised they were, in fact, England. Though the penalty conceded by Kyle Walker was soft if not incorrectly awarded and Harry Kane twice should have earned his side a spot-kick having been unceremoniously wrestled to the floor while challenging from set-pieces, their performance was, in large parts, England in a nutshell. Wasteful in front of goal, nervy at the back and lacking any cutting edge once they had conceded – as opening games at a tournament go this iteration of the Three Lions had it almost down to a tee.Again, though, they managed to come up with something very un-England – a stoppage-time winner. But as ‘Three Lions’ kicked in over the tannoy at full-time it was difficult to shake the feeling that they had got away with it somewhat. No England team since those likely lads in 1966 had managed more than the six shots on target England mustered up in the first half here. Unfortunately, it was the numerous efforts from close range that they failed to hit the target with that almost cost them. Jesse Lingard, John Stones and Dele Alli were all guilty of missing the target when presented with opportunities from inside 10 yards. Raheem Sterling had an offside flag to thank for perhaps the worst miss of the lot; not that certain corners of the English media will likely let him forget it.Kyle Walker England Tunisia penalty World Cup 180618This was an England team that very much felt like one with only 25 international goals between them prior to the tournament. Ashley Young’s contribution of seven only highlights the issue this young but improving team has in front of goal. They do, though, have Kane, who remains clinical. Though he may not have netted the hat-trick he joked he wanted to keep pace with Cristiano Ronaldo in the early running for the Golden Boot, his two goals were just as priceless.England must now ensure that, unlike Portugal and Ronaldo, they do not become dependent on their captain to dig them out when others are lacking the same bite of the winged pests that were here to greet them in their numbers over the past two days.Southgate now has five days to prepare his team for Panama on Sunday, with finishing practice set to be very high on the agenda in Repino after what was – on the 22nd anniversary of England’s uber-clinical 4-1 win over the Netherlands at Euro ’96 – very much a tale England supporters have been told far too often.Fortunately for them, this one had a twist ending they’d not seen before.last_img read more

That equates to 36 women a day, and of those, 7 will die.Jacky Patrick as a teacher and a Coach, is mindful of her young charges understanding the responsibility they have as representative players to contribute meaningfully to their friends, the touch fraternity, and the wider community, and believes this initiative is a great way to make a positive contribution to a situation that has the potential to affect so many.“Most of us have been touched in some way or another with relatives and friends who have been diagnosed with the illness. Raising funds for research into this terrible disease is a great way to show our support for the community in which we live. Our Assistant coach lost her Aunty to the disease a few years ago and one our founding players was diagnosed two years ago, so it’s close to home for us all,” Jacky said. The “Pink Panthers” join an impressive list of community conscious groups, affiliates, and individuals within our sport to pledge time, energy, money, and support generously and consistently in the fight against cancer and its various forms. Queensland affiliate Coomera Comets hold an Annual “Touched by Cancer” tournament to raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer, and the Redlands Touch Association’s 17 Years girls Team did the “Walk for Life” event in 2006 to do their bit for cancer research. In February the victorious 2007 Australian Women’s Open World Cup Touch Football Team proved themselves to be Gold medal citizens as well as Gold medal athletes with a healthy portion of their World Cup fundraising efforts being pledged to the McGrath Foundation Charity. In July NSW Level 2 Referee Francis Wood raised $1,500 when she cut her long hair off for the World’s Greatest Shave to raise funds for the fight against Leukemia. The Western Suburbs Magpies raised over  $20,000 in a  fundraiser earlier this month to carry on the work of the Millennium Foundation and the Westmead Children’s Hospital which were the charities of choice of their late Manager and team mate Matt Essey, who passed away from Cancer after a brave three year fight in May 2007.The Penrith Panthers would like to encourage all Touch Football players to make a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The NBCF can be contacted to pledge a contribution by phoning 02 92994090 and quoting the number 140028777. The challenge has now been set down by the Penrith girls for the rest of our Touch playing members across the nation to get involved with a worthwhile community initiative of their own.At Bankstown on Friday night show your support for the NBCF by purchasing a Pink Headband or making a cash donation when the girls do the rounds with their Pink Piggy moneyboxes during the night. With apologies to Wests supporters, let’s hope the ‘Pink Panthers’ cross the stripe for a few ‘meaties’ to raise as much money as possible for such a worthy cause.last_img read more

Halpin Helping Next Generation

November 7, 2019 | By admin | Comments Off on Halpin Helping Next Generation | Filed in: kkcykwsge.

first_imgHalpin is the coach of the Northern Eagles 18’s Girls team at the 2011 X-Blades National Youth Championships (NYC), the third year that she has coached the side at the event. It was only a year prior to this that Halpin was competing in the event, for the Northern Eagles in the 20’s Girls division at the 2008 NYC. Halpin got into coaching about four years ago at the Eagles level, and is thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to teach the next generation of Eagles players some of her skills. “Peter Vincent was a pretty big inspiration for me. I just coached at a local level at Tamworth and there was an opportunity to coach at Eagles and I thought it would be good to step up and learn a bit more and teach the girls what I have been learning in the Australian side,” Halpin said. “It’s good. It’s really rewarding, especially watching the girls develop over the years. It’s been really good for me as a player as well, getting that coaches perspective.”Someone that has helped her along the way is Australian Women’s Open captain, Louise Winchester, who coached Halpin in the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges team while she was in school.Halpin has since progressed into the Australian Women’s Open team alongside Winchester, debuting for her country at the 2010 Trans Tasman Series against New Zealand. Being able to learn from Winchester whilst playing for NSWCCC is something Halpin describes as a ‘really great experience’. “Louise has done a lot for me in terms of inspiration, and learning the technical side of the game and just giving me those little pointers that I didn’t get off anyone else, she’s a really special coach and I admire her for what she’s done for me in the sport of Touch,” Halpin said. “She did for me what I’m trying to do for the girls, which is quite inspiring.”Halpin’s Eagles’ team sits in fourth place in their pool after the first day of the NYC. Halpin is hoping her young team can win a few games and grow in confidence throughout the tournament. She is enjoying her time coaching the side and hopes that she can continue to coach into the future. “The Eagles are developing now with a few really good players and they are learning to work well as a team so just coming away from it knowing that they’ve accomplished something is mainly what I am after. There are a lot of very young girls, most of them are 15 or 16 years old but they are all quite confident and definitely have the heart to push hard and win some games.”“It’s good to see the young talent coming through as well because I really aspire to coaching at a higher level once I’ve finished playing.”last_img read more

The investigation stems from an alleged incident that occurred in April.Cephus did not go into much detail about what he is being accused of. He did say it stems from a “consensual relationship.”Here is the full statement released by Wisconsin football’s Quintez Cephus. He tweeted the statement moments ago.“Late yesterday afternoon, my lawyers informed me that the Dane County District Attorney’s office intends on issuing unspecified charges against me for an incident that occurred in April of this year. I have been wrongfully accused of unlawful and I am innocent of any allegations associated with this consensual relationship.Coincidentally as the football season approaches, the three plus month investigation is now leading to unwarranted charges. ESPN Releases 3 “Bold” Predictions For The SEC

(Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)The SEC had a huge 2017 season. The conference sent Alabama and Georgia to the College Football Playoff national championship game, with the Tide winning it all.The league is expected to have another banner year this fall. Alabama and Georgia should be title contenders again, and Auburn is also ranked in the preseason top 10.ESPN’s Mark Schlabach unveiled his predictions for all of the Power 5 leagues. Schlabach picked the conference champs, award winners and much more.He also made three bold predictions for each league this fall. For the SEC, they are:Alabama wins another SEC titleTexas A&M will pay Jimbo Fisher more than $1 million per victory Georgia will have two 1,000-yard rushersOkay, is that first prediction really a bold one? Alabama winning another SEC title is as chalky as a pick can be.The Jimbo one is the most interesting. He is making over $7 million this season.Schlabach picked the Aggies to go 7-5.While Texas A&M’s president and its fan base might already be dreaming about SEC titles and national championships under Fisher, who was lured away from Florida State with a 10-year, $75 million contract, the Aggies first have to finish higher than fourth in the SEC West, which they’ve done only once since joining the league in 2012. The Aggies won’t do it this season, as they’ll lose to Clemson at home in Week 2 and drop each of their four SEC road games. You can read all of ESPN’s preview here.last_img read more

(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)For tonight, the Alabama quarterback battle went the way most of us expected. Nick Saban gave Tua Tagovailoa the start, the majority of the snaps, and looked like a transcendent player for the Crimson Tide in their 51-14 steamrolling of Louisville. We’ve all seen enough of Saban to know that the score of a win has zero impact on how he will react after a game. After the game, ESPN’s Maria Taylor asked the obvious first question of Saban.“Alright coach, everyone had questions about who was going to start at quarterback when this game started. What answers did you have about your quarterbacks after watching both of them play tonight?”There was a 0.00-percent chance that Saban wasn’t going to be asked about the quarterback situation tonight. He’s definitely going to be asked about it later on at the press conference too.Still, he was pretty rude to Maria Taylor in his answer, to be honest.Video of Nick Saban’s answer about the question about Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts:Wow. Nick Saban was FEISTY with Maria Taylor.— Zach Barnett (@zach_barnett) September 2, 2018His full answer:“Well I still like both guys, I think both guys are good players, I think both guys can help the team. Alright, so why do you continue to try to get me to say something that doesn’t respect one of them? I’m not going to, so quit asking.”To Taylor’s credit, she hung in there, and asked some more questions of Saban. Still, he could’ve been a bit more gracious in the response, when every college football fan in the world could have told you he’d be asked about it.Hurts spoke up this off-season about being less-than-pleased with how things were handled. There have been transfer rumors for months, and in all likelihood, that will come to fruition after he graduates this winter. It sounds like Saban is already going down the same road at the post-game presser:Nick Saban: “If I sound a little bit pissed, you’re right. I am. So be careful.”— Ben Jones (@BW_Jones) September 2, 2018That should be an interesting one.last_img read more

first_imgA general view of Memphis' football stadium.UCF football hasn’t lost a game since the 2016 Cure Bowl. AAC rival Memphis football had the Knights on the ropes, but a horrendous final few moments cost the Tigers a chance for a huge win.Memphis jumped out to a big lead at home. With around two minutes left in the first half, Memphis held a 30-14 lead, and looked ready to cruise to a win over the No. 10 Knights. The second half was all UCF, though. The Knights ran a two-minute drill to get a field goal before halftime, and in the second half, McKenzie Milton and company outscored the Tigers 14-0.Memphis had the ball last, and still had a shot to win the game, down 31-30 in the waning moments.Complete mismanagement of the last 38 seconds took Memphis out of field goal range, and ultimately cost the Tigers the game against UCF football. The Tigers forced a UCF punt, and got the ball back at their own 15 with just under a minute left.Brady White hit on a big 31-yard pass to Damonte Coxie for 31 yards on the first play of the drive, moving things all the way down to the Memphis 46.Two plays later, White had another long pass, connecting with Sean Dykes for 19 yards to the UCF 35. That’s where things fell apart. With 38 seconds left, the Tigers took too long to get set. A false start on Trevon Tate then pushed Memphis back to the 40, knocking out a chance for a long field goal to win it. On the next play, White scrambled around, and wound up settling for a nine-yard completion on the final play of the game.KNIGHT NATION!! COMING HOME WITH THE W ?? #ChargeOn— UCF Football (@UCF_Football) October 13, 2018UCF moves to 6-0 on the season, and will likely remain in the Top 10.This one has to sting for the Tigers, who fell just short in last year’s AAC Championship Game against Scott Frost’s Knights as well.UCF is now an amazing 12-1 all time against Memphis, with those 12 wins coming in a row. The Tigers won the first meeting between the programs in 1990, but UCF has absolutely dominated the series since.last_img read more

(Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)At this point of the college football season, there are plenty of star players competing at less-than 100-percent health. Georgia football quarterback Jake Fromm is on that list.Fromm didn’t have to do much in Georgia’s SEC East-clinching win at Kentucky on Saturday. He completed just 14-of-20 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Somewhat surprisingly, he was outplayed by Terry Wilson, who posted just his second 200+ yard day of the season.Of course, it didn’t matter when Georgia was able to run the ball the way it did. The Dawgs had 331 total yards on the ground, good for 6.6 per carry, and three scores in the 34-17 win.On Monday, Jake Fromm was spotted with a wrap on his knee.247Sports‘ Jake Rowe said that the Georgia QB had a distinct limp during drills as well. The first thing we noticed when we got out to the practice field was sophomore quarterback Jake Fromm wearing a wrap on his right knee during a zone-read/handoff drill. Fromm was noticeably limping as he carried out his fakes during the drill but still participated in full. When the team transitioned to routes against air, Fromm seemed to move a little better but still favored that right leg. He delivered the ball accurately during this drill and still took the first-team reps. We don’t speak to Kirby Smart until tomorrow evening but it doesn’t appear to be anything serious. It doesn’t sound like he’s in danger of missing Saturday’s game against Auburn, but you definitely want a healthy Fromm against the No. 13-ranked scoring defense in the country. The Dawgs also have Justin Fields, last year’s No. 2 player in the country, on the roster. During some of Fromm’s lesser performances this year, some have clamored for Fields to get a longer look. He did not appear during the Kentucky game.[247Sports]last_img read more
